Ahh Phishing, sounds like something you do on a boat with a few mates and beers but in the Steam world, it can create havoc for unsuspecting users.  The specific changes to the client include:

Steam Client

Added contact email account verification by request and on new account creation
Improved account security with verified contact email to prevent [...]

Left 4 Dead Engine:
- Fixed an exploit that allowed files to be uploaded to the server at arbitrary locations in the file system
- Fixed a server crash caused by a client packet claiming to be an HLTV client when HLTV is disabled on the server
- Fixed a server crash caused by spoofing a client disconnect [...]
