BF2 PatchAfter more than a year of primping and preening, the Battlefield 2 1.50 patch is actually going to see the light of day. There have been three betas released to varying degrees of success but DICE is comfortable with the results and will release the patch on September 1st.

In addition to the new map - Operation Blue Pearl - the patch now makes Highway Tampa a mandatory install and also frees up two of the expansion packs. That means you'll be able to play Armored Fury and Euroforce maps for free. What you won't get though is Special Forces which is too bad because that's the only expansion pack worth your time.

So, we get new maps, widescreen support, more RAM support and a couple of other updates. I hope this helps breath some life into BF2 for a little while because the only PC FPS game coming up that you'll want to play online isn't being released until November 10th (MW2).

BF1943 PC Delay

This pains me to even put it on the screen. Gordon Van Dyke, the BF1943 boss has said the PC version of BF1943 is being delayed until Q1 2010. This is backed up accordingly at gaming industry news clearinghouse Games Press (in the image above.) The reasons were adding features. You know, the features you were expecting to be in there that for some reason they haven't been working on yet?
  • These reasons include:
  • Support for ranked server provider hosting
  • Joystick support
  • Voip
  • 32 player game size
These are the expected features as I've already mentioned looking at this as a PC gamer - there is nothing listed that I didn't think was going to be there already. So, this seems to me to be a case of someone either not being entirely truthful or DICE just really dropped the ball on this.
